In our classroom we do begin homework in Kindergarten. Children are excited about school and most WANT homework.
It's never to early to begin fostering good study habits. Homework also gives you, as family, an opportunity to spend
time with your child and reinforces what we're doing at school!

LITERACY:
Literacy homework begins first and starts near the beginning of the year. You can expect at-home readers first!
These books are predictible pattern books that give children experience with print. Talk about the parts of the book
with your child, use the pictures to figure out words, track the words with their finger, and ENJOY! Later you can expect
sight words too!
Children currently have "At-Home Reading" and side B
of a Math worksheet to do each night Monday-Thursday. Math homework is to be returned to school in the homework
bag. Each child also has a complete set of Letterland tiles that you may use to review letters/sounds and to make
words. Some children also have a set of sight words. These are to be returned to school when your child knows
them and is ready for new ones to be added to the ring. (If your child doesn't have these yet...don't worry, they're
coming! We have a limited number of these and are sent home on a rotating / as ready basis!)

MATH:
Math homework begins later in the school year. Ideas for things you can do at home to help your child
with objectives we are covering at school will, however, be posted on our web-site and included in each newsletter!
